Local activities
With a population of 152,000, Linköping is the fifth largest city in Sweden. World class leading technology, an innovative university, a cutting-edge environment cluster and one of Sweden’s fastest-growing municipalities – makes Linköping a city where ideas come to life.
Linköping, known as the aviation capital of Sweden, is home to the only aircraft manufacturing plant in the country and one-third of the city’s business community either works or researches in the aviation industry.
You are always close to nature and culture in Linköping. Here, right in the middle of the beautiful Östergötland region (East Sweden), you are just as close to fluttering yellow canola fields and deep old forests as you are to history. Discover the open air museum of Old Linköping, the city’s cathedral, museums and parks.
Hotels
The city has over 1300 hotel rooms in the city core, all within a 5-15 minute walk from the congress center, shopping, cafeés, restaurants and night life.
Restaurants and shopping
Linköping offers a wide variety of delicious food incorporating influences from all corners of the world. We are however particularly proud of our own Östergötland cuisine. Our city is beautifully situated right in the middle of the rich, green Östergötland plains, giving direct access to the highest quality fresh-grown ingredients. Linköping offers a broad range of restaurants and coffee shops, that are all centrally located. If you are interested in locally produced food there are many places to visit like ostrich and turkey farms as well as cheese and ice cream dairies. Linköping is the commercial center of the region with vibrant areas like Tornby and the downtown core.
Air Force Museum
Linköping is known as the aviation capital of Sweden – and you don’t need to have a pilot’s license to fly yourself! Take the opportunity to fly the JAS 39 Gripen fighter aircraft simulator – it’s like flying for real. Here you will find ideas for fun activities that will suit everyone’s taste.
Old Linköping Open Air Museum
Travel back in time and experience life in a small Swedish town a century ago. You will discover quaint wooden buildings, cobble-stoned alleys, gardens and many museums. You will also enjoy shops, arts and crafts, restaurants and coffee shops.
Linköping Cathedral
Linköping Cathedral is the best preserved medieval cathedral in Sweden and one of the largest in the Nordic region. It is centrally located in Linköping, next doors to the congress center.
Castles and medieval towns
There are many castles dating back to the 1600s and 1700s in this area, a nice day or two can be spent visiting them. The medielval towns of Söderköping and Vadstena (Holy Bridgit) are also well worth the visit. The neighbouring city of Norrköping with the historic industrial landscape and its’ ochre yellow buildings and waterfalls are memorable.
Stockholm, the beautiful capital of Sweden built on 14 islands is well worth a visit. Travel time by train is about 1 h 40 min.
